James Deakin & Sons (English, 1886-1940), late 19th/early 20th century. Silver plated figural desk standish with removable molded glass trumpet vase at center above a depiction of St. George slaying the scaled dragon under his foot, sword raised above head, holding shield at hip level beside oak tree with leaves and acorns, flanked by two faceted glass inkwells with hinged lids in fitted niches behind recessed pen well on a rectangular base with chase and repoussed decoration with leaves and flowers , chamfered corners above facial masks on feet. Marked on bottom maker's mark for James Deakin and Sons, "SP" for silver plate and a pictorial desk bell to help distinguish their work from another Sheffield manufacture with the same initials. Overall approximate height 13.1", width 9", depth 5.75".
