Mills Novelty Company (American (Illinois), founded 1891), circa 1940. A scarce 5 Cent Mills Novelty '4 Bells' 4 player console slot machine, the oak console inlaid with geometric burl and maple, the player may make one to four selections; insert coins in front on the top of console for the desired selection and push handle down. The selections are 'Orange Special', 'Plum Special', 'Bell Special' and 'Bell Fruit Bar Special'. The top of console also has two mounted metal dished compartments for holding coins or possibly an ashtray. Front of console centered with pull down handle and flanked to each side with geometric inlay leading the four iron or nickel mounted coin pay-outs. Back of console has the '4 Bells' patent mounted metal plaque. Approximate height 39.75", width 40.75":, depth 23.5"
