Flemish (Brussels), Late 16th century (circa 1580). Renaissance period hand woven tapestry textile figural panel with garden and courting couple motif depicting three courting couples in various activities including conversing and dancing, view of palace in background with rolling mountains and trees. Scene contained within arched architectural borders, lower corners with lions with upturned tails flanking curtained swag, upper corners with standing figures holding leashes connected to winged mythical beasts (perhaps gryphon) below large flying butterflies on side of urn with facial and leaf tip decoration. Unmarked. Overall approximately 31" x 18". Provenance: Joanna Booth, 247 Kings Road, Chelsea, London, England whereby acquired by the Estate of Dr. Woody and Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia in October of 1995.
