Pair of Carved Mahogany Side Chairs, Pennsylvania, c. 1760-80, the serpentine crests centering carved shells above vasiform splats, trapezoidal slip seats, and beaded rails joining cabriole legs with shell-carved knees ending in pad feet on platforms, refinished, ht. 38 3/4, seat ht. 18 in. A Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, Collection Estimate $1,500-2,500 seat frames replaced; not through-tenoned, one seat rail has a repaired crack, one chair has three plugged holes in the seat rail probably covering screws or pegs attached to a glue block. A couple of replaced knee returns. Chairs are very stable. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
