(British, active 1854-1871) Portrait of a Boy Holding a Rifle, Said to be Alexander Duff Leadbetter Signed and dated "James Scott/R.S.A. 1857" l.r., sitter and artist identified in a handwritten label affixed to the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 24 7/8 x 20 in. (63.0 x 51.0 cm), framed. Condition: Lined, retouch, stable craquelure, surface grime. N.B. The above-mentioned note on the stretcher reads, "Alexander Duff Leadbetter/Born Free Church Manse/August 22, 1850/4th Son of Rev. J.A. Wallace./James Scott R.S.A."
