Bird's Head Pommel Saber and Scabbard Attributed to A. W. Spies, c. early 19th century, brass hilt with twisted "P" knuckle bow and remnants of silver wash, carved ivory grip, counterguard has two langets with a star, marked "Warranted" on the ricasso, partially blued blade with gilt foliate designs and panoply of arms, brass scabbard with some remnants of silver wash, engraved foliate designs around the bands and drag, and an eagle clutching olive branches, blade lg. 29, overall lg. 33 1/2 in. Provenance: Rodney Hilton Brown Collection; The War Museum. Note: This item may be subject to state and federal laws. Buyers are responsible for shipping. Estimate $1,000-1,500 Hilt is slightly lose, and a small chip in the ivory where the knuckle bow connects to the pommel. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
