Continental School, 17th/18th Century Study of Male Figures. Inscribed indistinctly "B..." l.l., inscribed "...di Angelo Bancheri," "Ecole F...," and "très beau dessin ancien/études d'hommes" in pencil in various hands on the reverse. Pencil on paper, 6 11/16 x 9 1/4 in., unmatted, unframed. Condition: Creasing, toning, soiling, pale staining, foxing, remnants of former mountings on the reverse. Provenance: The collection of Professor and Mrs. Jonathan Brown, Princeton. Estimate $300-500 The creasing on this work seems to have occurred in the original papermaking, rather than any mis-handling. The drawing marks skim over the tops of the ridges, suggesting the creases predate the drawing itself. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging. Any condition statement given, as a courtesy to a client, is only an opinion and should not be treated as a statement of fact. Skinner shall have no responsibility for any error or omission.
