Albert Roanoke Tilburne (American, 1887-1965) In the Ballroom Monogram signature "ARTilburne" l. l., with the artist's typed address label affixed to the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 20 x 24 in. (50.8 x 61.0 cm), framed. Condition: Scattered craquelure. Provenance: Skinner, Inc., American & European Paintings, November 21, 1997, Sale 1812, Lot 216. N.B. Tilburne spent much of his childhood traveling with his father, who ran a Wild West show. He trained in Paris, primarily at the Académie Julian, and he is known as a painter and illustrator. Estimate $600-800 The craquelure is scattered and stable. The work might benefit from a gentle cleaning.
