The William Barch, Lancaster, Pennsylvania Chippendale carved walnut desk and bookcase, signed by cabinet maker William Dennis and dated 1789 , the upper section with a swan's neck pediment, two urn and flame finials, and a central plume cartouche flanked by bold rosettes, above a floral carved frieze and arched recessed paneled doors over two candleslides, resting on a base with a fall front enclosing a fitted interior with serpentine and shell carved drawers over four drawers supported by ogee bracket feet, the prospect compartment with two inscriptions, the first To Mr Wm Barch made by Wm Dennis 1789 , the second Samuel Seagraves desk bought at Wm Barch's ___price 23 dollars 1814 , 103 1/2" h. , 37" w.
