Liebert, Alphonse (1827-1914) Les Ruines de Paris et de ses Environs 1870-1871, Cent Photographies. Paris: par la Photographie Americaine A. Liebert, 1872. Two oblong quarto landscape-format volumes, text by Alfred D'Aunay (1837-1883), illustrated with 100 albumen photographs mounted on heavy sheets; bound in uniform contemporary diced russia; amateurishly rebacked and re-cornered; chipping and foxing to contents, some leaves detached, others with chipped corners, slight marginal water staining, and occasionally foxed, 12 x 8 1/4 in. (2) Liebert's work records the devastating aftermath wrought on the city by the Prussian army during the Siege of Paris in the Franco-Prussian War. Property from the collection of Harvey Shipley Miller, proceeds to benefit the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
