David Roberts (Scottish, 1796-1864) hand colored lithograph depicting the medieval “Citadel of Cairo Residence of Mehemet Ali” as titled to the lower left hand corner, framed and matted under glass. Signed by the artist and lithographer to the lower right center of the image. Frame measures 19” in height by 25” in width with the sight image measuring 12-1/2” in height by 19” in width. All measurements are approximate.David Roberts (Scottish, 1796-1864) was a Scottish painter. He is especially known for a prolific series of detailed lithograph prints of Egypt and the Near East that he produced from sketches he made during long tours of the region (1838–1840). These and his large oil paintings of similar subjects made him a prominent Orientalist painter. He was elected as a Royal Academician in 1841.
