Important Philadelphia silk on linen sampler, dated 1739 , wrought by Rebaccah Claypoole aged 9 , possibly worked at the school of Elizabeth and Ann Marsh, 6 3/4" x 11 3/4". While the present example follows the general band layout of early Philadelphia works carried over from English design, it is more fully developed with figures, birds, and elaborate floral sprays.
