Tapio Wirkkala (Finnish, 1915-1985) for iittala (Finnish, 1881-). A set of 36 "Ultima Thule" salad plates, each having a smooth surface and a textured underside, with beaded base and textured sides. With six original boxes, each with 4 plates, and 12 separately. Boxes marked, plates unmarked. Approximate height .75", diameter 7.25", height (of box) 2.25", width 7.9", depth 7.9". Note: Wirkkala's original design was inspired by the melting ice in Lapland.
