Philadelphia painted Windsor side chair, ca. 1780 , with a fanback with bold ears, a saddle seat, and delicately turned legs joined by a bulbous and ring turned center stretcher, retaining its original Spanish brown surface. A similar example is illustrated in Santore The Windsor Style in America , plate 47.
