Gelatin Silver Print with Portland Vase, England, 20th century, the vase being held by a gentleman in what appears to be a vaulted area, titled inscription below "The Portland Vase Arrives for Sale. Under a strong guard the historic Portland vase which has been on loan to the British Museum for fifty years during which it was smashed to pieces by a crazy workman and afterwards repaired, was taken this morning April 17th., to realize many thousands of pounds. The picture shows the Vase being unpacked in the vaults at Christie's," image size 6 1/4 x 8 1/4 in.; mounted in a modern frame.
