Pearlware Pint Mug with Attached Pewter Lid, Britain, the mug is banded in blue, gray, and black with cat's eyes on black in blue, gray, and white, and scroddled three-color slip decoration on gray in black, white, and blue; the lid, attached to the top of the extruded handle, is chased in a leaf-and-vine pattern surrounding a portrait medallion labeled "Frederick VII Kong af Danmark," total ht. 7 1/2 in. N.B. King Frederick VII of Denmark reigned from 1848-63. The mug is British, probably the work of one of the northeast potteries (Sunderland or North Yorkshire), for which Denmark was a major market. The lid is probably Continental, contemporary with the pot.
