Angel Tarrac (Mexican, 20th century). "Ninos Heroes", cast bronze sculpture, incised signature to right side of base "Tarrac". Sculpture in the round depicting the "Child Heroes" of the Mexican-American War killed in action at the Battle of Chapultepec in September of 1847, the boys being recent graduates of the military academy. Sculpture depicts the six boys - Agustín Melgar, Fernando Montes de Oca, Francisco Márquez, Juan de la Barrera, Juan Escutia, and Vicente Suárez - at center beneath an eagle framed in sunburst, four of the men standing proudly holding guns and a flag, two of them fallen to the ground or a comrade's lap, verso of sculpture incised with their names below a medallion at top reading "1847". Approximately 19.75" x 8" x 6.5".
