Ignaz Marcel Gaugengigl (American, 1855-1932) Apple Blossoms Signed "I. M. GAUGENGIGL" l.l., artist's label on the reverse. Oil on canvas, 32 x 38 in. (81.5 x 97 cm), in a signed and dated "Thulin 1923" frame. Condition: Lined, scattered retouch, varnish inconsistencies. Provenance: Gift from the artist to the Ledlmaier sisters, then by bequest to the family of the present owner. N.B. Gaugengigl was good friends with the Ledlmaier sisters who grew apple blossoms in their garden. Upon seeing the above arrangement in the sister's home, Gaugengigl was inspired to paint this still life which he presented as a gift to the sisters. The lot is accompanied by a vintage photograph of the artist.
