Folk Art Carved Wooden Figure of a Black Man, America, 19th century, the figure with articulated arms, carved and painted head and facial features, wears woven cotton trousers, leather boots, supported on a metal stand, (wear), ht. 52, wd. 15 in. Note: A similar example is described as "... a calliope figure and were used on the carousel to create the illusion that the figure was working the pipe organ."
