Classical Carved and Veneered Mahogany Marble-top Secretaire Abattant, Boston, c. 1834, the black and gold veined marble top overhangs the frieze drawer above the recessed paneled fall front which reveals an interior of valanced end-compartments with a central open space having a recessed panel back and flanked by columns over three small drawers one of which has a pencil inscription:" Wm. S. Hains 1834" on the bottom, above a green velvet-lined writing surface over the similarly recessed paneled and veneered lower cupboard doors that open to a single shelved interior all flanked by tall exterior columns topped by crisp leaf carving and ending in turned, banded and flattened ball feet with recessed panel sides, excellent surface and condition, (marble top is replaced), ht. 60 1/2, wd. 39, dp. 22 in.
