Abbie Luella Zuill (American, 1856-1921) Still Life with Cherries Signed "A. L.Zuill" l.r. Oil on canvas, 10 x 14 in. (25.4 x 35.5 cm), framed. Condition: Good. Exhibitions: Fall River School Paintings, Greater Fall River Art Association Inc., April 1970. N.B. According to a letter, dated June 5, 1975, from Janice B. Buffington of the Greater Fall River Art Association, Inc., this work was purportedly started by Robert Spear Dunning. Abbie Luella Zuill was a follower of the Fall River School of still life and studied under Dunning. She remained faithful to his style and even completed several of his unfinished works after his death. Zuill's still lifes, though, were less sharply delineated and used a softer form of light. The unfinished Stille Life with Cherries was given to Ms. Zuill by Dunning's family following his death in 1905. Zuill finished the painting, signed it and gave it to her student Miss Wood. Following Miss Wood's death in 1975, the work was sold in an estate sale at the First Christian Congregational Church in Swansea, Massachusetts.
