American School, Last Quarter, 19th Century Portrait of Susan Murdock with Her Dog, 1870-1890. Unsigned. Oil on canvas, the full-length portrait shows Susan in a blue-green dress with a small white dog on her lap as she sits on a red and green Turkish-style tasseled cushion, 37 1/2 x 25 in. (sight), in original carved gilt frame. Condition: Unlined, two small patches. Note: Murdock's married name was Susan M. Raymond. A daguerreotype in an embossed leather case, picturing her father, accompanies this lot. A partially legible early paper affixed to the reverse of the frame reads: "J.M.
