Blue and White Woven Wool and Cotton Jacquard Coverlet, attributed to David Haring (d. 1889), Bergen County, New Jersey, 1834, two-piece double-weave coverlet centered with a field of floral medallions and eight-point stars, bordered on two sides with urns of flowers, eagles, and birds in trees, the corners with a rose, the two end borders with two oval cartouches woven with the name of the owner and the date "Tiney Smith 1834" flanked by eagles and stars and roosters, with tassels on two edges, and fringe on one end, (small fray at center, minor toning and stains), 94 x 73 in. Note: According to A Checklist of American Coverlet Weavers, compiled for the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Center by John W. Heisey, several of David Haring's coverlets bear roses with several leaves at the corners and often included the names of the owners in cartouches on the end borders instead of the more usual corner blocks.
