Pair of Paint Decorated Side Chairs, attributed to Samuel Gragg, Boston, Massachusetts, c. 1825, the pierced splat above two horizontal spindles joining raked stiles on a shaped slatted seat and turned legs joined by stretchers, white painted surface with polychrome and gilt seashell, ropetwist and foliate designs, (imperfections), ht. 35 1/2, seat ht. 18 in. Note: Label on underside of seat reads "Beal." Beal of Boston was a known retailer of Gragg chairs.
