Attributed to Samuel Miller (Charlestown, Massachusetts, 1807-1853) Portrait of Phoebe Frances Ricker in Her Youth. Unsigned. Oil on canvas, she is depicted seated on a classical stool in front of a landscape scene with her dark hair, large almond-shaped blue eyes, and gold necklace to offset her dark red taffeta dress trimmed with black lace and white pantaloons, her right arm outstretched holding a leaf of a flowering plant and her left hand fingering a book in her lap, 35 1/4 x 28 1/2 in., with old giltwood frame. Condition: Good, cleaned, some craquelure.
