Inlaid Mahogany Box, America, 19th century, rectangular box with hinged lid, the top centered with an inlaid eight-point star in a contrasting light and dark diamond check pattern, shield motifs in the corners and escutcheon, inlaid borders on top and sides with conforming diamond check pattern and contrasting linear borders in ebony, ivory, and other woods, the box opens to a cavity with green velvet lining on the top and bottom, ht. 5 3/8, wd. 15 3/4, dp. 8 1/2 in.
