Pair of Painted Leather Fire Buckets and Two Linen Bags, America, 1818, each cylindrical bucket with brown leather swing handle, red painted collar, the front decorated with a banner with the Latin inscription "SEMPER FIDELIS" (always faithful), flanked by scrolled foliage over a heart above clasped hands and an oval reserve with the name "HENRY HOVEY 1818," on a blue ground; together with two woven linen bags which aided in the evacuation of property in case of fire, with black lettering stating "No. 1 Henry Hovey 1811"and "No. 2 Henry Hovey 1811," (minor imperfections), bucket ht. 14 1/4, bags 47 x 25 1/2 in. Descended through the family of the consignor.
