(1822-1885), Autograph Letter Signed, March 6th, 1881, two pages, to a Mr. Cresswell, concerning his trip to Washington to attend the inauguration of James Garfield, "Mrs. Grant & I will go to Washington by Limited Ex. to-morrow to spend two or three days. Will you be kind enough to say to Mr. Costa, of the Willard Hotel, that I would like to have a private parlor with two bed rooms. I have no special business in Washington, but I feel as though I want to see how the new Administration was going to start off, and see some of my friends.
