French, late 19th/early 20th century. Matched pair of Empire style walnut open armchairs or fauteuils with square padded back and seat upholstered in red and gold striped velvet fabric with brass nail head tacking , leaf tip and fish scale motif above and on undulating arms fluted blocks (sides with scrolling and rocaille shell) on square legs. Overall approximate height 34.7", width 23", depth 19.25", seat to floor 16.5".
