Italian, 19th century. Large collection of eight-nine Grand Tour cast plaster bas relief intaglios or medallion gems, each with gold wrapped borders, some larger and depicting classical figural groups after antiquities including Laocoön and His Sons (the Laocoon Group) as well as others depicting portraits in profile, religious subjects and other masterpieces of classical sculpture; accompanied with a oblong glass intaglio. Loose medallions contained in two wooden trays, one with blue interior, the other with marbleized paper in grey, red and tan. Laocoon group medallion measures approximately 2.125" x 2". Provenance: Bonhams, London, Knightsbridge, Period Design, April 8, 2014 where as sold as part of Lot 395.
