After Johannes Vermeer (Dutch, 1632-1675) "The Art of Painting", oil on canvas, unsigned. The original painting dates to the 17th century, is owned by the Austrian Republic, and resides in the Kunsthistorisches Museum (Art History Museum) in Vienna, Austria. Painting depicts a 17th century artist, likely Vermeer himself, in an interior scene conducting a portrait session with a young brunette beauty as model. The model poses in a green silk gown holding a horned instrument and a large book while standing before a wall tapestry depicting a map and a coat of arms. The artist sits at a wooden easel on a checkered floor beside a patterned drape that has been pulled aside to let the viewer into the scene. Framed 54" x 43", unframed 48" x 36.5". _x000D_
