John Drissel(Southeastern Pennsylvania , late 18th c. ) , painted pine slide lid candle box, inscribed on lid "Johannes Stauffer Anno 1797, John Drissel, his hand", above a flower on an ivory ground, the sides with tulips on a red ground, 3 1/4" h., 9" w., 5" d. A similar box made for Anna Stauffer is illustrated in Kauffman Pennsylvania Dutch American Folk Art , pg. 117. A weavers comb painted by Drissel for Elizabeth Stauffer is illustrated in Stoudt Early Pennsylvania Arts and Crafts , pg. 192.
