Very fine, large and ornate Japanese hand carved rosewood double sided floor screen with pierced figural crest at top with an ebonized and ivory male figure with bald head and beard riding a top a winged, four clawed phoenix and holding a scroll with gilt character marks and cloud scrolls above a central scene with five bald men (likely Buddhist Immortals) with elongated earlobes in gilt accented robes in various activities including releasing a serpentine dragon from vessel, sitting holding sword handle and walking stick or staff, sitting holding large lotus flower leaf, standing and holding a tall object composed of mother of pearl with ebonized twisted spire and red accent at top, and standing holding large black object in hands. Figural scene composed of lacquer, ivory, mother of pearl, and stones and depicting an outdoor setting with tree with cherry blossoms. Intricate scene framed within bamboo border further contained within carved wood border with flowers and leaves with bats in corner (symbol for prosperity) within outer frame with flowers and scrolling. Opposite side of floor screen with perched and flying birds amid a cherry tree with flowering blossoms. Overall approximate height 62.4", width 44.25", depth 15.5".
