Chester County, Pennsylvania Queen Anne walnut tall chest, dated 1743, and initialed ID, the molded cornice over a 3 over 2 over 4 drawer configuration, above a scalloped skirt supported by ogee bracket feet, 59 1/4" h. , 39 1/2" w. The chest was purportedly given to Jane Downing by her father Thomas Downing after whom Downingtown was named in the year of her marriage to John Roberts III in 1743. It has descended directly in the Downing family to the present owner.
