Pennsylvania silk on linen needlework sampler, ca. 1799 , inscribed "Henrietta Maria Howell", with an upper panel with verse and trees, over family record and stepped landscape with mansion, table and chairs, trees, birds, and pots of flowers, all within a flower and vine border, 16 3/4" x 15 3/4". Henrietta Howell was born in 1789, daughter of Catherine Yerkes and Reading Howell. For similar examples see Girlhood Embroidery by Ring, pgs. 162-167.
