Woman's Fur-lined Winter Surcoat, China, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), the navy blue surcoat woven with roundels comprising stylized foliage and archaic scrolls, the black trim embroidered with double gourds, narcissus, and wan symbols in three shades of blue, the wide sleeve bands of cream silk embroidered in satin and Peking knot stitch with the sanduo motif and floral roundels, with details highlighted with gold threads; the entire garment lined with white and gray fur which peeks out from the edges of the cuffs, hem and central opening.
