Russian Icon Depicting St. Alexis, 19th/20th century, shown with one hand raised in blessing against a punch-decorated gilt background with abstract patterning to the border, framed within a shadow box with a hinged glass door, stamp to the back of the panel, total 13 1/2 x 11 3/4 in. Areas of cracking within the paint and gilded surface. Scattered very minor flakes to paint along the edge. Frame with vertical cracks to the back and scattered abrasions throughout. Lifting from panel to the painted/gilded surface shows that thin wood surface is applied to a larger back panel. Scattered cracks related to very slight bowing to panel affecting painted surface. Small areas of worming.
