Cased Pair of W. Parker Flintlock Pistols, c. early 19th century, walnut checkered pistol grips with steel fittings, lockplate marked W. PARKER , one with replaced cock, slide bar safety, steel barrels have gold inlay, platinum vents, and are marked W. PARKER-HOLBORN-LONDON , small silver escutcheon plates marked with a raised arm and sword, and FORTES FORTEN JUVAT , and the initials J.D. , triggerguards are engraved with a flag and foliate designs, wooden ramrods, and walnut case marked on the lid to Lt. John Maxwell , case lid lined with gosling-green baize, felt in cut-outs for the pistols, barrel lg. 4, overall lg. 8 1/2 in. Note: There is a paper label in the case that reads: "Fine pair of flintlock coach pistols, marked Parker, Holborn, London. Gold inlaid, platinum vents, checkered grips, silver nameplates with coat of arms. Plate on oak case marked "Lieut John Maxwell" who was a mate on the Bounty (Mutiny on the bounty). They came from an auction sale and this history was given" . A check of the crew list does not show a Lt. Maxwell. The silver crest on the escutcheon plate appears to be the crest if the Dickson family, possibly once owned by John Dickson.
