French, first half of 19th century. Mythological figural finely rendered hand painted and hand silk embroidered silk textile panel depicting a scene from the classical Greek tragedy. Young standing Antigone and her father, Oedipus at center under large tree amid a classical landscape. Inscribed lower left with "Par Mmlle Clementine Philppi, 23 Avril 1826". Work contained within glazed frame with gilt border and text at bottom register that reads "Par Mlle C. Philippi OEDIPE et ANTIGONE Marseille 23. Avril 1826.". Framed approximately 24" x 27.5". Sight size approximately 16.25" x 20.125".
