“Venus and Adonis” Johann Georg Puitner, No. 1. the case signed by Martin Langpour, Augsburg, circa 1740. Very fine and rare, large, repoussé silver pair cased four-train coach watch with hour and quarter striking and repeating, date, alarm and silver and leather covered outer case. Outer: two-body, leather-covered, silver rims and pierced central rosette, sound holes around the bezel and back. Inner: two-body, silver repousse, pierced and finely chased with a scene of Venus and Adonis within an architectural scroll border, bezel decorated to match, loose ring pendant. White enamel with radial Roman numerals, inner alarm setting ring, outer date and Arabic five minute numerals. Blued steel pierced hands. 78 mm., frosted gilt full-plate, conical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, engraved fixed barrels for the striking and alarm trains, brass three-arm balance, short balance spring, pierced and chased continental type balance cock, polished steel endplate, silvered numbered regulation dial with steel pointer, striking on a bell mounted in the back of the case, strike/silent lever and repeat push in the engraved gilt dial plate border. Movement signed. Diam. 118 mm. Notes Provenance: According to an old label in the back of the watch, this watch belonged to the Duchess de Berry (mother of the Comte de Chambord), widow of the Duc de Berry, son of the Comte d'Artois (afterwards Charles X of France). It is stated to have been made at Copenhagen and to have belonged
