Hovsep Pushman (Armenian/American,1877-1966), "Sacred Lotus of the Nile", oil on wood panel, signed lower right. Figural painting depicting a woman at bust length with dark hair wearing a jeweled tiara, necklace, emerald green camisole and draped shawl or robe in an interior with hints of Asian sculptural objects (subject very similar to items found in the artist's still life paintings) behind her. Painting contained within original gilt and ebonized frame behind protective glass. Framed 38.5" x 30.5". Unframed 28" x 20". Accompanied with image of photograph of work, likely an inventory image inscribed with the title on verso and a stamp from a photography studio in Aurora, Illinois where the collector Cowan lived. Provenance: Mr. James M. Cowan, Aurora, Illinois whereby by descent to his relative Dr. Kirven Weekley.
