Ref. 3116. “Royal” Rolex Oyster, “Royal”, Ref. 3116.Case No. 148000. Made in 1940. Fine and rare tonneau-shaped, water-resistant, stainless steel wristwatch. Three-body, polished, screwed-down case back and crown. Two-tone champagne with dot and Roman hours, outer minute track and subsidiary seconds. Blued steel "Bâton" hands. 10 1/2’‘‘, rhodium-plated, 17 jewels, straight line lever escapement, Superbalance, adjusted to two positions self-compensating Breguet balance-spring. Dial and movement signed. Dim. 38 x 29 mm. Thickness 10.5 mm. Notes Reference 3116 was one of Rolex’s most successful references at this period and was marketed as the Royal, Viceroy, Imperial, Imperial Chronometer and Observatory Chronometer.
