”Allegory of Love” Chevalier & Comp. , Geneva, No. 3652, circa 1800. Very fine 18K yellow gold and painted on enamel pocket watch. Two-body, “Directoire”, the back with a polychrome enamel depiction of a young lady with a dove’s nest in her lap and a cupid at her left under a tree on a translucent blue enamel over guilloché ground, blue and white diamond patterned enamel to the bezel. White enamel, Arabic numerals, outer minute divisions, Arabic fifteen minutes winding aperture at 2 with arrow mount. Gold “fancy” hands.. 41 mm , frosted gilt full-plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement brass balance with flat balance spring, continental cock pierced and engraved with the letters “CHEVALIER”. Dial, movement and cock signed. Diam. 51 mm Property of a Collector from Hong Kong Notes Chevalier & Comp. Listed as watchmakers working in Geneva at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th centuries. They specialized in gold watches with either enamel or pearl decoration.
