“Lovers’ Tryst” Sennet Freres, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Swiss, No. 4604. Made for the Chinese Market, circa 1900. Fine and very rare 18K gold and painted on enamel, split pearl-set, keyless minute-repeating pocket watch with chronograph. Four body, "bassine et filets" with split pearl-set bezels, the band engraved with formal decoration and dark blue enamel, the back cover set with a translucent blue guilloché enamel panel painted with a scene depicting a young couple in a wooded glade. Hinged gold cuvette decorated with exhibition medals. Translucent Royal blue guilloché with gold painted radial Roman numerals, outer gold paillon dot minute markers, outer gold painted fifths of a second chronograph scale with Arabic five minute/seconds numerals, subsidiary seconds. Gold “Spade” hour and minute hands, foliate gold chronograph hand. 42 mm., 19’’’, frosted gilt, 17 jewels, straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator, steel chronograph work on the backplate, repeating on gongs activated by a slide in the band.
