Half Grande Sonnerie Minute-Repeating Carriage Clock Swiss, patent No. 13896, retailed by C. Meyer, Montreux. Made circa 1900. Very fine and very rare, small, gilt-brass, 8-day going, half- Grand Sonnerie striking and minute repeating carriage clock. Circular white enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer gold paillon dot minute divisions, cream mask with gold paillon decoration. Gold spade hands. Rectangular matte gilt brass plates, going barrels for the going and striking trains, straight-line lever escapement on a matte gilt platform, cut bimetallic compensation balance with temperature and mean time adjustment screws, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator, striking and repeating on two gongs with two hammers, sonnerie/silence button in the base. Dial signed C. Meyer, Montreux. Dim. 103 x 75 x 57 mm. Notes The striking may be termed "half-grande sonnerie" because the hours are struck on the hour, and the hours and quarters only on the half hour and not at each quarter as is usual in a grande sonnerie clock.
