Fontac – 12 and 24-Hour Watch with Chinese Numerals Fontac, London, No. 265. Made for the Chinese market, circa 1790. Fine and rare, gilt brass and painted on enamel, 12 and 24 hour pocket watch. Three body, double backed Consular with fixed cuvette, the back with a painted on enamel bouquet of flowers on a royal blue ground. White enamel with Roman numerals, outer Chinese hour ring. Gilt brass poire hands and a further hand revolving once in 24 hours. 46 mm., hinged gilt brass with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain steel three-arm balance, flat balance spring and gilt brass English cock. Movement signed. Diam. 64 mm.
