RETROGRADE PERPETUAL CALENDAR Attributed to H. R. Ekegrèn, Geneva, ‘Quantieme Perpetuel’, case No. 20162, retailed by Guy, Palais Royal No. 16, Paris. Made circa 1870. Very fine and rare, hunting-cased, keyless 18K gold pocket watch with perpetual calendar with fly-back date and a gilt chain and penknife. Four-body, bassine et filets, polished, the front cover with an engraved foliate monogram highlighted with red, blue and white enamel. Hinged gold cuvette. White enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer dot minute divisions and Arabic five-minute numerals, subsidiary dials for the seconds and the months, aperture for the days of the week, retrograde date sector in red. Gold spade hands. 19’’’, matte gilt, 15 jewels, wolf’s tooth winding, straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance with gold meantime and temperature adjustment screws, blued steel Breguet balance spring with overcoil, index regulator. Cuvette signed by the retailer. DIAM. 53 mm. Notes The present watch is of high quality and is particularly interesting because it exhibits a very rarely found and sophisticated horological feature. The perpetual calendar with retrograde date is extremely uncommon and was made by very few workshops, among them H. R. Ekegren, Breguet and Marius LeCoultre
