THE APOTHEOSIS OF VENUS Austrian, the movement signed Pierre Morel à Genève, No. 84721. Made circa 1880. Very fine, Viennese, silver and painted on enamel table clock in the baroque manner. Silver, waisted case with bacchic cherub finial, lion mask and ring handles, elaborate scroll feet, square base with corner masks and scroll feet, set with finely painted polychrome enamel panels throughout depicting Venus and other mythological figures. Silver with black champleve radial Roman numerals, the center with polychrome champleve enamel stylized shell. Pierced gilt hands. 26 mm., matte gilt, full plate, fusee and chain, verge escapement with micrometric potence adjustment, three-arm brass balance, flat balance spring, continental cock with steel endplate, rack and pinion regulator. Movement signed. DIAM. 19.3 x 11 x 7.9 cm.
