Verneuil Aîné à Paris, No. 510, circa 1820.Very fine and rare 18K gold, quarter repeating Grande and Petite Sonnerie clock watch. Three-body, “Empire” polished with reeded band, by Joly (Master mark) No. 1816. Hinged gold cuvette. White enamel with Breguet numerals. Blued-steel Breguet hands. Gilt brass double trains with going barrels, Breguet overhanging ruby cylinder escapement, plain gold three-arm balance, flat balance spring with regulator. Grande and Petite Sonnerie striking with selection levers on the movement, repeating on gongs with button on the pendant.Signed on the dial and cuvetteDiam. 58 mm. Notes The striking train of this watch is fitted with a regulator based on the same principal as the stackfreed used in place of the fusee on the going train of the early German watches, in order to pull down the mainspring when fully wound and release it progressively as it goes down.
