Climbing CherubsSwiss, circa 1810. Rare and unusual 18K gold quarter-repeating automaton watch. Three-body, "Empire", polished back, reeded band and bezels. Hinged gilt brass cuvette. White enamel chapter ring with Breguet numerals. Blued steel "Breguet" hands. Glazed three-color gold chased automaton scene applied on a blued steel ground and driven by the repeating train: two cherubs climbing along two columns to escape from a dog, and striking the hours and quarters on two bells. Gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain brass thre-arm balance, flat balance-spring, gilt brass continental cock with polished steel end-piece. Repeating on two gongs by depressing the pendant.Diam. 56 mm. Notes Climbing Cherubs is a very rare automaton scene, only two others are known.This watch is published in the Ruscitti book, as no. 58.
